Kim is a Principal and Vice President at Lewis & Knopf, CPAs, PC. Currently in charge of the firm’s Quality Control Process and Procedures, he spends most of his time auditing and consulting with closely held businesses. He has been with Lewis & Knopf since college – 25 years ago.
In his time at Lewis & Knopf, Kim’s accomplishments have been impressive – He prepared the first school district, GASB #34, Audited Financial Statement in the State of Michigan and the third such statement in the United States. He is a member of the local School District Board of Education, currently serving as Vice President. Additionally, he is the Trustee of the community’s Educational Foundation.
Kim is a frequent speaker for the MACPA, MSBO and the Genesee County School Business Officials Organizations. Some of the topics he has addressed include: GASB #34 implementation for Michigan School Districts (MACPA, MSBO), audit responsibilities related to service organizations, athletics and trust & agency accounts at Michigan school districts (MSBO), “How To Get Ready For Your Audit” (GASBO), and “How To Audit Title I Programs” (MACPA).
Kim attributes some of his success to his role model, Dick Shade, a retired Lewis & Knopf partner. Dick taught him what it means to serve a client and how to treat fellow team members. Based on that background, Kim is well-known for his determined work ethic and the consummate ability to develop relationships and serve clients beyond their expectations.
Kim is often energized by his clients’ successes. In a recent instance, he was contracted by the local Community College as their CFO on a six-month interim basis while an executive search was done. In that role, Kim took the community college through their budget preparation and adoption process, incorporating strategic initiatives into the budget for the first time in the history of the college.
Kim was born in Flint, Michigan, but was raised in Otisville. He comes from a family of five boys. He has been married to his wife, Pam for 20 years and together they have three daughters. Kim loves sports of all kinds. He serves as a play-by-play broadcaster for varsity high school football and basketball at the local community’s public access cable channel. He also coaches youth baseball and softball teams and his daughter’s AAU basketball teams.
