Employee Spotlight – Joel Gibbons
What year did you join Lewis & Knopf?
I originally joined Lewis & Knopf when RPT merged with the firm in 2007. In the fall of 2010, I left Lewis & Knopf when I moved to Charleston, South Carolina. I returned to the firm when I moved back to Michigan in 2013.
Tell me a little about where you attended college and the degree(s) you earned. Any special accomplishments?
I attended Ferris State University and graduated Cum Laude in the spring of 2006. While in school, I had an internship with Bob Boyce, a local CPA in Big Rapids, Michigan.
What is your favorite thing about living in Michigan?
I enjoy the four seasons in Michigan and I love the nearby lakes and beaches. I’m also a huge fan of the four major Detroit sports teams, as well as the University of Michigan. My favorite sport is football and I love going to Lions games, though I enjoy any opportunity to watch a live sport.
Tell me a little about your family.
I’m overjoyed that I have a baby on the way! Our baby boy, who will be named Kole, is due on September 5th. My mother lives less than a mile from my home, and my dad and step mom live on Lake Fenton. I’m an only child with grandparents in Davison, Michigan and San Diego, California.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
If I didn’t have to sleep, I would likely spend more time playing golf or working out at the gym. I would also watch more sports and try to catch up on the Netflix shows that everyone is always talking about. I’m not sure where people find the time!
What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?
The summer after I graduated high school I took a trip to Ireland. I’ve always had a desire to see more of the world. I would love to travel more often!
If you had a clock that would count down to any one event of your choosing, what event would you want it to count down to?
I would love to have a clock that counts down to the Lions making the Super bowl, since it has yet to happen in my lifetime. I hope to live long enough to see the day!
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
I would like to be able to fly or to be invisible. It would be nice to be able to disappear sometimes.
